Les Pirie from Millport secured his first area title at the age of 50 on Saturday at a windy Rothesay by winning the Argyll & Bute strokeplay championship by 3 shots from Bute's Graham Bolton.
A shot further back were George Reynolds and Chris Timms of the host club. Pirie ensured victory with a fine 3-under par 66 in the afternoon which included a back nine of 30.
In the Youths event run concurrently with the strokeplay championship local club champion Gordon McClean won with a total of 148.
It was a good day for the Millport club as their team of Pirie,Lundie & Robinson won the right to represent Argyll & Bute in the National Club Championship final to be played at Windyhill at the end of September
The area executive would like to thank Rothesay Golf Club for staging the event and commend them on their course's fine condition despite the poor weather lately.
Next county action will be the handicap championship also to be played at Rothesay on Saturday 13th September. Entries should be with area secretary Richard Biggart no later than Thursday 4th September
